Scott McLarty who entered the Macon case as Starr co-counsel in July, was arrested by Athens-Clarke County Police after an early morning raid on his home in the Clarke County town of Winterville. Police seized more the one ounce of cocaine, less the one ounce of marijuana and several guns, according to police. He was released on bond Tuesday. Starr is one of three defendants charged earlier this year with conspiring to possess pipe bombs, and actually possessing them. The government contends the men, members of the Georgia Militia, were preparing for war with the government. The defense, however, contends the men were part of a peaceful political group that was involved in paramilitary training for defensive purposes. The group considered an attack from government law agencies to be as inevitable as interventions to the Branch Davidians at Waco, Texas, and the Weaver family at Ruby Ridge, Idaho. Starr's main counsel, Nancy Lord, said she was unsure what effect, if any, McLarty's arrest would have on Starr's case, which is scheduled for trial Sept. 3. "It's too early to tell," said Lord during a break in pretrial hearing for Starr an co-defendants Jimmy McCranie Jr. and Troy Spain. "It may have no effect because the trial's coming up soon. (McLarty) may not even be arraigned" by then. U.S. District Judge Duross Fitzpatrick continued to hear motions Wednesday in the pipe-bomb conspiracy case. Government and defense attorneys are reviewing transcripts from hours of secretly recorded tapes of the defendants made by two confidential informants. Lord also unsuccessfully sought to have excluded from the trial pipe-bomb material and other evidence seized from ...(continued on page 2B) Subtitle: Judge announces that he will sequester jury during trial Starr's property in Crawford County. Fitzpatrick announced Wednesday he would sequester the jury during the trial, which is expected to take at least two weeks. McLarty, whose practice is based in Athens, has not been at any of the recent hearings in Macon on the pipe-bomb case. The search warrant for McLarty's home was issued Friday by a Superior Court judge in Clarke County. Athens-Clarke drug and vice detectives said they had received information from several sources accusing McLarty of cocaine trafficking, said Det. Mike Hunsinger, who led the raid. "His name has come up several times" in the past year, Hunsinger said. ***** Staff writer Eric Velasco and the Associated Press contributed to this report. MACON - As motion hearings continued in federal court yesterday, U.S. Assistant attorney Sharon Ratley pleaded for the inclusion of an incident known as the "DFACS incident", in which several of the Georgia Militiamen are accused of attempting to "take down" the children's services agency. Although, the militiamen, noticing that state sponsored terrorists were waiting to "take them down in the parking lot", wisely chose not to approach the government property back in April, Ratley stated that this incident showed that the accused has "no respect for authority." One unnamed member of the press said, "Although the defense teams are showing restraint in the face of government arrogance, most of the (defense) arguments seem to be ignored. "It seems more like an exercise in futility," he said. A U.S. Marshall, who was helping protect the defendants, said "I'm surprised no one tried to take the easier route and just bust them out!" Michelle Moore, brother of Robert Starr, was fired from her job Wednesday, for supporting her family during this situation. *** GADSDEN, AL (CDN) - The Clinton campaign is gaining strength among militia members. In an INTERNET discussion called "Political Warfare" last weekend, constitutionalists from several states conferenced in to discuss the benefits of the Clinton administration. Jeff Randall, co-founder of the Gadsden Minutemen, a law abiding Alabama Militia group who became famous by exposing the normal behavior of the BATF at the Good Ol' Boys Roundup, says that Bill Clinton is the "best recruiter the militia movement has ever had". Randall, along with William Michael Kemp, a national Militia philosopher and Constitutional dialogue expert, lobbied for militia support of the Clinton/Gore democratic ticket. Although the Clinton administration has not commented on this upsurge, political experts believe that the president's lead in the polls is due to militia support from pivotal states such as Ohio, Missouri, Florida, Georgia and other Galaxies. Randall says that Clinton's recent executive order to regulate cigarettes is "guaranteed to swell the ranks of the Militia". "It's a great political move," says Kemp. "4 more for Clinton/Gore," he said. SENECA, NY (CDN) - A spokesman for the Native American Reservation Landowners Association praised President Clinton for signing an executive order regulating cigarettes. "We're just tickled red," said Chief Robert Running Wolf of NARLA, saying that his phones haven't stop ringing since Clinton's executive order. "We've received calls from all over the nation from tobacco farmers and companies wanting to buy land," Running Wolf said. The reservation chief says that large corporations such Philip Morris and RJR Nabisco have called making offers that dwarf the profits from the natives' bingo fortunes. Running Wolf tribe says that the value in reservation land will double over the two weeks since the U.S. Constitution forbids taxation or certain regulations on "Indian lands". The Indian Nation agreed to talk to this office when calling about militia contacts in the western New York area. Due to the heightened interests in regulation-free land, tribal leaders are seeking the aid of militia security personnel. "Bill Clinton will get my vote," says Running Wolf, who plans to open a "lend-lease" land office next week. "We estimate our Indian brothers and tribesmen will reap enough profits to buy back our country, just like the Japanese bought Pearl Harbor," he said. **** A STATEMENT FROM NANCY LORD We are very pleased to announce that Mr. Scott McLarty will continue as co-counsel for Robert Starr, III. Mr. McLarty is now counted amongst a troubling list of lawyers who have won criminal cases against the federal government -- then became a defendant. Mr. McLarty was set up by government operatives with planted evidence -- just like his own client, Robert Starr, III. Last year, another skilled lawyer suffered through a year long trial, in Reno, Nevada, after his own clients were offered juicy snitch deals to testify falsely against him. He was acquitted. Neither Mr. Starr, Mr. McLarty, nor I will cower under the boot of this continuing tyranny. It appears that our last remaining right is that of trial by jury, and its purpose is to prevent the oppression by the government. That purpose will soon be accomplished.
